Castelo de Vide and Tomar

Castelo de Vide, city famous for its mineral water, castle (XIV c), and remnants of Juderia. This is Fonte da Vila - fountain spouting mineral water (XVI c).

This steep street, probably the most photographed street in Castelo de Vide, leads from Fonte da Vila up towards the castle, through former Juderia.

This building supposedly used to be a synagogue, although not much remains to indicate that it served as one.

Juderia in Castelo de Vide turned out slightly underwhelming, so we moved on to exploring the castle. Here we are climbing up to the top of the castle tower, view from a window...

... and here I am on the roof of the castle tower!

Menhir da Meada, a 7m-high ancient megalith not far from Castelo de Vide. Supposedly, there are several dolmens around Castelo de Vide, but this was the only one we could find - probably because of its size.

Griffon flying over the megalith.

Tomar is another picturesque little town with some Jewish remains, so we made a stop there as well.

This is the main square, Praça da República.

Entrance to the restored synagogue in Tomar.

Inside the synagogue.

Walking along the riverside in Tomar, here is my photo with two Fernandos (Fernando Lopes-Graça, composer, and Fernando Ferreira, poet).
